07.02.2011 The Migration Advisory Committee has suggested that a shorter list of eligible occupations should apply under Tier 2 of the UK Immigration Points Based System.
The shorter list will now cover 39% of the skilled jobs on the UK Job Market instead of the 56% currently.
Civil Engineers, Finance and Investment Analysts,Teachers and Nurses are among those occupations still on the list however occupations like retail managers, salon managers, laboratory technicians and real estate agents are o longer on the list.

UK Temporary Limit on Non EU Immigrants- Tier 2 Changes
The UKBA is introducing a Temporary Limit on the number of Tier 2 applications with a view to reducing the number of applications to 5% of the number from last year (overall including Tier 1 and Tier 2).
Tier 2 limit will be maintained by limiting the the number of Certificates of Sponsorship each UK sponsor can issue.
This limit will include all Certificates of Sponsorship under Tier 2 including certificates used in Tier 2 extension applications.
The limit will NOT include Tier 2 Intra-Company transfers, Ministers of Religion and Sportspeople.
The limit will NOT include applications by Tier 2 Dependents.
All UK sponsors should receive a letter from UKBA that will outline their Certificate of Sponsorship allocation for the period 19 July 2010 to 31 March 2011.
I will be posting further explanation on the specific details for UK sponsors as stated in the most updated Tier 2 Guidance shortly.

ID Cards for foreign nationals -Tier 2 applicants included
From January 2010 migrant workers and their dependants will receive an ID card when they apply to extend their visa duration under Tier 2 of the UK points system.
All in country Tier 2 applications submitted from 6 January 2010 will need the submission the applicant's biometric details.
Certain categories of of Visas already have a requirement to submit biometrics when extending their stay in the UK. (See Identity Cards for more info)
