Review from IPPR claims UK Immigration to rise in 2010/11
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has claimed in its Migration Review 2010-2011 that the UK Govt's plans on reducing the number of Net Migration is bound to be a failure.
The review has also reported that the UK Govt used deceptive tactics with regard to Student Visas. In the UK there has been a steadily growing number of International Students and the UK Govt plans to reduce the total number of Students too, however the consultation on Tier 4 UK STUDENT VISA is still underway and a reduction in Tier 4 Applications is highly unlikely in 2011.
With regard to the Immigration Cap on Skilled Migrants the report stated that the UK Public DO NOT perceive these Migrants as an Issue.
Taking into account the Financial Situation across Europe and the Irish Financial Collapse there is serious concern on the numbers of Migrants from these areas entering into the UK. One thing looks certain though the UK govt will come under fire from all sides with regard to the immigration policies and pledges they have made.

Non European Workers Annual Limit Set
The Home Secretary confirmed today the new measures that will be introduced to control the amount of foreign workers from outside the EU.
Besides limiting the number of foreign skilled workers that UK Businesses can employ in the country, the Home Office is making the intra company transfer route harder and limiting the Tier 1 of the points based system to entrepreneurs, investors and applicants with exceptional talent.
The UK Govt has committed to the following:
-Introducing the annual limit of 21,700 for applicants that are applying under the highly skilled and skilled route (20,700) Under Tier 2 (General) and 1,000 under the new exceptional talent route
-Raising the minimum salary amount to 40,000 GBP for those applicants under the Intra-Company Transfer
-Raising the minimum required education level of all those applying under the Tier 2 to at least Graduate Level
-New Tier 1 route for exceptionally talented applicants
It has been reported that according to findings done in the UK recently that about a third of applicants entering the UK through this route were in fact doing low-skilled work.
These new rules will come into affect in April 2011 and again we see a massive shift in the UK policy towards immigration and foreign workers.
It is also clear that once again the Student/Tier4 route which makes up the majority of migrant applications will also be assessed and most definitely changes will be made to the Tier 4 Policy and Procedures.

UK Home Secretary on UK Immigration Cap
The UK Home Secretary briefly discusses the Cap on Non EU Workers entering the UK and she also touches on the consultation being carried out by the Migration Advisory Committee on how the limit should be operated and what levels of limits should be set at. She also confirms that the temporary cap being introduced later this month will be set at 5% lower than the levels from last year.
The way in which the UK Govt has approached the Limits intended on being set has been accused of being short sighted and not necessarily the best way to reduce immigration BUT at least they are consulting with many UK businesses and industry leaders, who will be given the chance to voice their concerns and make suggestions.

UK Labour Market Earnings
The Annual Survey of Hours and Wages (ASHE) found that weekly pay for full time employees in the UK rose by 2,0 percent.
10% of UK full time employees earned up to and more than 971GBP per week whilst 10% earned less than 271GBP.
According to the survey the highest paid earnings in 2009 were among Health Professionals with an average of about 1,031 GBP per week followed by Corporate Managers with 745GBP per week.
Science and Technology Professionals came next with an average of 698GBP per week and the lowest of full time workers were those in Sales Occupations who averaged 278 GBP per week.

Birth Marriage and Death Registration - WHY?
17 May 2010- Since about 1837 there has been a requirement to register KEY LIFE EVENTS (births, deaths, marriages, adoption and civil partnership). Obviously the process has undergone some changes but the basic approach used today remains in place.
Registration of such key life events is a vital part of identity documentation and allows the applicant to receive a certificate that supports any further personal applications (e.g. Passports or Driving Licenses)
The General Register Office controls the administration of the registration process in England and Wales. The GRO maintains a national archive of all births, deaths and marriages as well as adoptions and civil partnerships since 2005.
THe GRO may also be able to assist with adopted persons looking to find birth relatives

NEW UK GOVT
12.05.2010-After the 6 May 2010 Elections the UK Border Agency Website has been changed.
- News Stories, strategies and goals under the previous government have been removed from the web site however this content can be seen on the UK govt web archive.
Guidance and application forms can still be found on the UKBA web site though.
Lets hope the new govt can handle the challenges ahead.
