ENGLISH LANGUAGE students looking to study only English Language Courses will from today be able to apply for a STUDENT VISITOR VISA which will allow these students to stay in the UK for up to 11 months.
This extended STUDENT VISITOR VISA will be available exclusively to applications made outside the UK.
Please note that the requirements and restrictions of the EXTENDED STUDENT VISITOR will be the same as the current STUDENT VISITOR. Applicants under this STUDENT VISITOR VISA are NOT ALLOWED:
TO WORK
TO TAKE UP A WORK PLACEMENT
TO BRING DEPENDENTS
TO EXTEND THIS VISA
THIS EXTENDED STUDENT VISITOR VISA does NOT affect any applications to study NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES in the UK for longer than six months, and anyone thinking of applying for a course like this (Longer than six months and non English Language) needs to still apply under the TIER 4 rules of the POINTS BASED SYSTEM.

Review from IPPR claims UK Immigration to rise in 2010/11
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has claimed in its Migration Review 2010-2011 that the UK Govt's plans on reducing the number of Net Migration is bound to be a failure.
The review has also reported that the UK Govt used deceptive tactics with regard to Student Visas. In the UK there has been a steadily growing number of International Students and the UK Govt plans to reduce the total number of Students too, however the consultation on Tier 4 UK STUDENT VISA is still underway and a reduction in Tier 4 Applications is highly unlikely in 2011.
With regard to the Immigration Cap on Skilled Migrants the report stated that the UK Public DO NOT perceive these Migrants as an Issue.
Taking into account the Financial Situation across Europe and the Irish Financial Collapse there is serious concern on the numbers of Migrants from these areas entering into the UK. One thing looks certain though the UK govt will come under fire from all sides with regard to the immigration policies and pledges they have made.

Tougher UK Student Visa rules are coming.....

As part of the UK Govt's efforts to reduce the numbers of immigration a new consultation on the entry requirements of Tier4 Student Visa route.
The UK Home Office recently reported that 41% of all students entering the UK through the Tier 4 Student category were studying at below degree level courses.
Some of the changes proposed by Damian Green are harder entry criteria, limitations on the work that Tier 4 Students can do and an end to students staying in the UK looking for work after their graduations.
These changes further indicate the level of the Govt's commitment to keeping their promise of reducing immigration numbers, recently we have seen the introduction of Highly Trusted Sponsors and the A and B sponsors list, which in my opinion did little to help.
Some of the proposals mentioned are:
reducing numbers of below degree level foreign students
introducing a more difficult English language requirement
imposing limitations to student's ability to work in the UK and bring dependents
confirming any student visa extensions are in line with academic progression

Tier 4 Student Visa Guidance Change
Last week the UKBA edited the Guidance Notes of the Tier 4 UK Student Visa.
The previous Tier 4 Policy Guidance states that a student wishing to study with a new tier 4 sponsor before the existing visa has expired must make their new application inside the United Kingdom
If a student made their new application from outside the United Kingdom, under the previous Tier 4 Guidance they would be refused...
HOWEVER Students with existing Tier 4 Visas will now be able to submit their new applications from outside the United Kingdom. The new Tier 4 Guidance will be amended to reflect this change

UK Govt Looks to tighten Student Visa Regulations
The UK Govt is looking into tightening the regulations for Student Visas in an attempt to regulate the growing number of Foreign Students that enter the UK. It has been reported that the numbers of non EU students entering the UK has risen by more than 75,000 in the last 12 months, added to that figure are the 31,000 dependents joining their partners studying in the UK.
When the points based system was introduced it was meant to be a lot harder for foreign students and workers to enter the UK but according to certain campaign groups the Student/ Tier 4 route has failed and according to them is in fact the same as before the points based system.
Damian Green, the UK's Immigration Minister, has confirmed that there will be a thorough review of the rules and also claimed that significant abuse of the student visa system has been taking place.
Each year there are many international students that enter the UK to take up legitimate studies for degrees at Universities within the UK. These institutions clearly view foreign students as an extremely lucrative income source especially with the current cuts to the Higher Education Budget, some research shows that a third of Universities intended to increase the number of students they would enroll in September.
Another main issue to be reviewed is the regulation that allows students to extend their stay in the UK after their studies and work legally.
